Remembering on nurontin - Neuropathy Message Board

I am a 51 year old man, full time student in college, and I find it hard to remember the new things that I learn in classes such as algerbra. Even my wife of 30yrs. asks me how I can remember stuff from the past but not as of lately. Exp: She use to like onions on her burgers. about a year ago they did not like her. When I go for burgers, I reply back what she wants usually and of course onions come up. I have to write these things down now. Has anybody else experianced this? Was it while you were on the nureontin?

I have been taking neurontin for about a year and I have no memory. My fiancee gets mad at me because I will tell him the same thing over and over and forget that I had already told him. I forget how to spell and Have to write every thing down and then I forget where I put the list. It is a normal thing while on neurontin. I had to give up driving because I would forget I was driving, thought I was a passenger. I had my surgery and i'm weaning off the neurontin and I can tell the difference already. Today my doctor told me I could start driving again if I feel safe. I think I'm goiing to start driving around our apartment complex. The last time I was in my car my fiancee wanted me to turn on the lights so he could make sure they were working because we had to pull a trailer and I forgot how to turn on the headlights. So don't worry it's just the neurontin. Good luck and NO ONIONS...lol

I was like in a fog when I took that stuff , luckily I recognized a problem and only took it for like a month and then got off it . Things normalized after that .

I have Sensory Peripheral Neuropathy caused by an auto-immune disease of unknown origin. I've been fighting this for 3 years.

I'm 47 and take 3600mg of gabapentin (neurontin) a day (900mg 4/times/day, it's 3 pills each time) for pain/burning/numbness in my toes/feet/legs/hands/fingers .

My wife gets mad at me about my memory also. Back when I was on much less, I told my DR I couldn't take the memory loss and being a zombie. I am an independent software developer so it was really affecting my ability to work. She put me also on Cymbalta (30mg) for leg pain, but what I noticed was that it seemed to help me think clearer. Each time my gabapentin was upped, I'd do the memory/zombie thing and she would up my cymbalta because I would complain (120mg day now).

I'm thinking clear right now, but I'm waiting for the next time I need to up the gabapentin. The most you can take is 6000mg/day.

maybe your Dr would put you on a low dose of cymbalta and see what happens. can't hurt
