Facial numbness still unexplained - Neuropathy Message Board

I went to a ENT doctor because I was having problems with unilateral hearing loss (very mild), fullness in my left ear, ringing in my left ear, dizziness, vertigo, loss of balance, headaches and numbness on the left side of my face. Doctor said TMJ causing headaches, hearing loss, fullness and numbeness, everything else was allergies. I know I have tmj, but it hasn't been bothering me at all (my jaw pops, but no pain at all) so I found a tmj association web site and inquired if tmj could cause those problems. I got a message back that said tmj can cause all of my symptoms except for facial numbness, except in extremely rare cases. They recommended I call my primary or a neurologist. Now I don't know what to do. Should I go to a neurologist or let it go and assume the doctor knows best? Please help!!!

When a condition cause you concern I wouldn't just accept what doctors have said if you get conflicting results. You know how your body has been acting lately and if there still is a question on what is going on now I would talk it over with your doctor. I would tell him what your found out from the tmj website and talk over what other options are out there for you. A neurologist can do tests to determine if you have nerve damge that would be causing your numbness.
I had a condition (not what you are experiencing) that I would not accept the findings. I knew there had to be something that was causing my problem. I insisted that they had to do more tests. Well finally after 6 different tests they found the problem.
