At the end of my rope! - Neuropathy Message Board

Hi all - I just don't know where to turn for help. Have had Small Fibre PN for five years and for three it was just in feet and calves but now it has hit my thighs and it is a whole other ball game. The cramping is horrific and I constantly feel as if I'm under attack from a swarm of wasps. Does anyone know if this is what they refer to as the nerve dying back. Any if so why does this happen. I thought PN just affected the feet. I have no idea why I have this awful disease but truly feel that I just can't cope any longer. I do nothing but pop pills in an effort to find some quality of life. The Drs. say I have tried all the drugs available. Currently on Cymbalta and Tramadol.
Does anyone else have it this bad?

I've had small fiber idiopathic neuropathy for at least three years. I am a teacher and am able to work while on Neurontin although by the end of the day I'm not able to do too much. Without it I'm sure I'd be on disabilitiy. I get a stinging feeling in my inner calves sometimes like I have actually been stung. It's not my primary symptom, but when it happens about once a week it lasts most of the day and it is horrible. Ice helps while I'm applying it.

Are you seeing a good neurologist? What have you been tested for?

Mumzy....just curious if your DR. has given you all 3 blood tests of
Fasting Blood Glucose
Fasting Blood Insulin
A1c Red Blood Cell
Although alot of neuropathys are idiopathic we know something are causing these things and its up to the diagnostic specialist or Neurologist to figure out. From my research on this a lot (not all) of these numbness/pain neuropathys are connected to some type of Glucose Intolerance by the body so if any of those 3 test are elevated then that could be the answer even if our neuro can not figure it out. So request ALL 3 of these test if you have not had them already and go from there....

Hi, A while back i suffering badly with leg calf cramps, i started taking Magnesium and Calcium supplements and they stopped straight away, i only take them now when i feel some muscel tightness comming on.
