New to the boards - Neuropathy Message Board

Hello all.

I'm new to these boards.
A bit about me...I'm 47yrs old. 18mths ago, I hurt my lumbar region and had 2 herniated disks...since then, I have spinal nerve pain. The doc has me on Lyrica and Oxycontin, as well as EffexorXR, and I am very depressed with being in pain for so long...I want my life back. I have gained 20 friggin pounds on these meds too. I am also taking Lupron Depot injections every 3 mths for cyst shrinking on ovaries, as they can't be removed. TMI on that one to put in here.
I have heard that topamax works for neuro pain, without weight gain...I asked the doc, and he said it was only for depression...I feel kinda lost in all of this...any help would be greatly appreciated

Seems as of you are having a rough time.
The effexor should help with the depression, if not tell your doc and get another antidepressant......Cymbalta does help nerve pain and depression.....30mg a day is the usual dose for nerve pain........
You are taking oxycontin which is pretty strong but maybe you are having a lot of break through pain.
I'm not familiar with Lyrica or tompamax.
I wear a Fentanyl Patch and have been trying Tramalol for breakthrough pain....and I'm not happy with Tramalol...........but the Cymbalta worked great for the burning even though I'm not depressed I was willing to try it and in about 7-10 days it started to work............Really helps the nerve pain in my arms and legs.
