Does anyone take opiates for their nerve pain/neuropathic pain?

I was just curious - granted I have other injuries going on (fusion, S/I joint problems, etc) and have been on various opiates as well as neurontin (which made me as sumb as a doorknob), and others I cannot remember but I recognised them after reading some of your posts. But I was wondering if any of you take opiates as either B/T or on a regular basis...
Hope you are a having a pain free day... don't let it drive you crazy!!

Yes, i take 60mg of morphine sulfate twice a day. its not as effective as it was when i first started it and have to rely on my b/t a little more. i also take1000 mg of amytriptylene at night.

yes, it was a typo, it should have been 100 not 1000.

I am curious about a statement made earlier since I take Neurontin.

You said taking Neurontin made you as "sumb and a doorknob". Is that a typo and what did you mean to say?

Re: Does anyone take opiates for their nerve pain/neuropathic pain?

I have a damaged ilioinguinal nerve in right side- I have an electronic stimulator implant, which helps but is not a miracle cure. I take lyrica 50 mg twice a day, cymbalta 120 mg at night, i place a lidocaine patch on the most painful spot at night, and take 10 mg Percocet up to three times a day as needed for pain. I have found that a combination works effectively most of the time, but sometimes you just have pain. Then I increase the Percocet to 15 mg.

Finding an empathetic pain dr. who is concerned about managing pain is the first step. If you don't like your current dr. look around. God Bless!

Re: Does anyone take opiates for their nerve pain/neuropathic pain?

Please don`t think i`m telling you what to do.Neurontin isnot a opiate.I would avoid using opiates. The reason being is that they work at the start then they gradually start to fade in pain killing. But by then you maybe addicted;and need to take it to prevent withdrawal...
