Constant Pain

Hi all,
I was diagnosed with diabetes in 2005. My sugars have been totally out of control. I was put on insulin about 4 months ago, and my sugars were still out of control, finally I got the right dose and my sugars were better, at least reasonable. Now I am have horrible feet pain. The doctors said it was the beginning of neuropathy. The endocrinologist put me on 25 mg. of amitriptyline, and the podiatrist gave me 800 mg. ibuprofen, and 300 mg of lyrica. None of this is helping, the pain is still so bad, I cant stand it, and the worst is at night when I try to go to sleep. I wake up 4,5 sometimes 8 times a night with the horrible pain. I feel like I'm alone and noone understands the pain that I am dealing with. The endocrinologist told me I need to excercise (I am overweight) but my feet hurt so bad, sometimes I can barely walk, let alone exercise. I am at a loss and dont know what to do. Is anyone else experiencing anything like this? It would help to hear from someone else.

Re: Constant Pain

You may have gout and will want to have a 24 hour urine test done to measure uric acid in your system. If you test positive, speak to your MDs about diet modification and possible medication to prevent gout (Alpurenol).

Re: Constant Pain

Couple of things you might try. Ask your Doc about a drug called Lyrica - can be very effective. Ask your pharmacist about creams or ointments containing capsaicin. Rubbed on painful areas can be very effective. Also B complex vitamins never hurt and can help over the long term. Good Luck..
