I am in the process of getting some type of diagnosis. I have an appointment with my neuro tomorrow. The last time that I seen her she said something about SFN and that we may never have a cause of it. I am not diabetic, have had many MRIs and blood tests, everything is normal. I have prickling, burning, sensations just about everywhere. I can't stand clothing because it makes me feel like I have a million bugs crawling under my shirt. y concern is that I do have stomach bloating, gas and diarreah alot. Can I die from this if it turns out to be SFN? My problems started 8 years ago after I suffered a period of 3 months of nausea. After the nausea went away the twitching and tickly bug crawling sensations started. Now I am burning where the bugs used to be. Xanax helps alot with the burning. I have a script of Lyrica because I am a migraine sufferer but don't want to start it because I have a bridesmaid dress to be able to get into in a month . I heard there is weight gain with the Lyrica. Thanks Jen

I am right there with you with how you feel... I have SFN and also have the same bowel symptoms you have. I have gone to many specialists and I have had a clear MRI too...It is scary not knowing what is wrong with you and I have been told by my Neuro that I can't die from it, but um well, how the heck can he say that for sure??? I mean, if you don't know what is causing this, how can he know?

I decided to go to a allergist and I am undergoing alot of testing. Still waiting for my results on my Celiac blood test. I do know I have alot of food allergies and my current plan of action is to test to see if allergies are causing it. The lighbulb lit up in my head when the non-stop loose stools began and I was also diagnosed with Interstitial Cystitis. {{{{{More hugs}}}}} I so feel your pain.

It is so scary being so young(I am 31) and a mother of two beautiful children.....

Hi,

I know that many of us have it and I have never heard of anyone dying from it. If someone does die, it is from an underlying cause and not the PN itself. Such as having diabetes and not controlling it.

I, too, have PN with no real cause for it. I've had it for about 2 1/12 years now. All the syptoms you describe are common. But taking the Lyrica is the first step. You really must follow your doc's orders. I didn't have any weight gain but I go to the gym 3 times a week and try to be very active.

Cutting out sugar will help quite a bit with the symptoms, even if you're not diabetic. Studies have shown a link with sugar to PN. Those of us "oldies" cut out the sugar and see a dramatic increase in pain when we do eat something like ice cream.

Start the Lyrica on the lowest dose possible only at night for a week. After that, add the morning dose. By very slowly increasing the dose only at night, will help you avoid the loopy feeling and get adjusted to it.
