Hi, I'm New & Have Neuropathy, among other things..
Hi All,
New to the board.
I have neuropathy.. had it for about 6 years now.
We thought it was from chemotherapy or radiation, for my colon cancer..( got that when i was 34!)
But, was also recently (finally!) diagnosed with Fibromyalgia, and diabetis.
My gen doctor isn't keeping up with ALL my issues, so I referred myself to the pain management specialist. ( who , so far, has been a godsend.)
The gen doc said I have HBP ( funny thing is, I have a monitor at home, and it is always around 100/73 , or less.) It was high ONCE in his office and he stuck me on lisinopril. I think it was because they didn't use the "fat girl cuff", and that makes a difference!
Anyhow... The doc had me on 50 mg of lyrica. The pain management doc, upped it to 150 Mg 2x daily. Gradually increased it to 300 MG 2xdaily.
I missed 2 doses last week ( because I have rotten insurance and have to pay for lyrica myself) Yesterday, I began the 300 MG. WOW am I fuzzy!
My neurop is very intense, goes all the way up my legs to my knees. The pain doc even thinks the pain in my back is also from neurop.
I have a paralyzed diaphragm on the right side. ( don't know why) and the pain is right there, at my shoulderblade. I had intercostal injections for that, and it helped alot!
Anyway.. the neuropathy is only slightly better. I do not sleep at night , at all. I sleep maybe 2 hours, at most.
I've tried cymbalta, and neurontin, both of which did NOTHING.
I am tired of being in pain.
The only pain med I have is percoset 325 mg, which is like taking a baby aspirin, as far as I am concerned.
I just want to be out of pain, and not be so fuzzy.
I really could use a pal to talk to about all this stuff. My husband just doesn't understand it all. ( no, you can't throw your leg over me in the middle of the night, as it HURTS!) Or he doesn't understand why I have brain fog. Or why some days I can't move, and other days I am rearranging the liv room furniture.
Is it all right if I hang around here and chat and get advice and all that?
Thanks!
Re: Hi, I'm New & Have Neuropathy, among other things..
Just keep one thing in mind: If the pain medication your doctor gives you
does not work. Ask for something stronger. If he won't give it to you, get a
new doctor. I know the pain you are suffering from. I had it for 25 years.
In this day and age, there is no need for suffering. Don't be shy.

Thanks so much Woo.
I've read some of your back posts.
Trying to figure out who has what, who's been here a while, and who'll have the answers to my questions.
I didn't want to come in and be a whiney baby.. but .. I feel like just a kid with all this, and I needed to whine for a minute, as I am just so sick and tired of being in pain.

Hi GrammAww, I can truly understand what your body is going thru right now. Used to have nerves pain and chronic pain for 15 years! Pain killers do not seem to KILL the pain. PAIN is History to me now. I stop taking doctor's prescriptions. M on alternate medicine. 100% natural. It not only relieves the pain but also treat all my health problems Without side effects. I'll explain further if you are ready to try alternate medicine.
thank you and God bless you.

Want to spend a bit of time writing about other than otc medications for pain.
Kaiser, our local hmo, has a five week course for patients who deal with
critical pain most of the time. I would check out if you have a hospital in your
area; it gives you lots of help. #1, If you can't sleep because of intense pain,
quit trying, get up, and clean the house, make tomorrow's supper, read a book,
but don't lay down.If you are getting sleepy, try to sleep sitting upright as this
is thought (and I agree with) that the pain intensifies when one goes back to bed.
Whatever you do, do NOT DRINK ANY ALCOHOL. That would intensify your pain. I've never smoked pot, etc. but i realize that younger people have different strokes. go for
it.Lastly, try to be optimistic. Give accupuncture a try. It, however, did not work
in my case.
Last night I had a recurrance of pain, two nights total of about 3 months.I slept
for only 4 hours. So.....after exercising 2000 calories worth of threadmill,I do
not have a continuation of the pain, And that is truly miraculous for me. Woondog
