PN help

I have noticed a good amount of peripheral neuropathy threads here but i just wanted to throw mine in to see if i can get directions to go in etc.

For years now i have had nerve pain, so much i dont work anymore cause i cant old a job down without having to phone in sick and loosing it. Dosnt make a reliable worker this at all.

Over the past 2 years i have been heading down hill. I now cant feel any sensation in my back, just between my shoulders and the *****ling is spreading and really irrating. I also have no circulation in my feet and if i so much as bruise myself then i am in severe nerve pain in that area after.

I am saying this here because i have been to a neurologist at the start of the year and had an xray which showed muscles spasming for no apparent reason that was before i lost all feeling there. He said i was normal. I am irate about this as now i have started noticing over the last few months my index finger and little finger nail have stared to curve downwards. I seen it was tied to the nerves and respiratory problems i have to.

how do i get my doctor to listen and at least perform a test on me! i cant get ant sort of solid answer apart from Pn for anything.

will it get any worse cause i aint getting any better? will i end up immobile and be forced to work and i cant! i tried before and had to go back on the stupid social here.

Just really had enough of everything, I am sure you all have to but see loads more have insight and treatment here.

Re: PN help

Hi Ireland, if i had doctor that doesn't want to help i would find another that will.
I would ask my General practitioner to be sent to neuro that specializes in PN,
not just a normal neuro, as PN can be very complicated and you need the expertise of a very experienced PN specialist otherwise you might just get the basic tests and they will just label it idiopathic PN and given medication for pain, although sometimes even with the best PN experts working on your side they can still find no known reason why your nerves are being affected, but to give yourself the best chance of finding a cause, a PN expert is the only way to go.

In my case of PN, i had a professor of neurology do a nerve conduction test on me and actually said i showed no signs of peripheral neuropathy, even though my feet felt like they were on fire, now i know that a NCT can't even test for small nerve PN and once i found a real PN expert he laughed at the report the professor done and ordered a heap of blood tests, Quanitive Sensory test and and EMG and found i had a little large nerve involvement but mostly small fibre damage, this is why it is so important to have a very experienced PN expert working for you, not just a normal neuro.

Re: PN help

Why thanks i will ask for the PN specialist. I felt so disheartened by the other one who told me to take herbal stuff fopr a headache and said i was normal. I am much worse now though. doctor has taken more blood off me again and was dismissive as usual. I feel he never believes me. I may go again to the other doctor who diagnosed me and ask her to send me to a PN specialiost then.

thanks again.

Re: PN help

I agree with Aussie, a neurologist who specializes in PN would be optimal for your health and welfare, but even a neurologist who is empathic and agressive and knows what tests to perform and doesn't settle for a simple diagnosis to send you out the door with. There ARE good doctors out there, along with those burned out by managed care. You sound like you really could use a break and find a good, curious, aggressive neurologist who is up to the standards of care you require. Best of luck to you. Paulo
