Nerve Conduction Test - Neuropathy Message Board

I am scheduled for one in a couple weeks, along with an EEP and triple evoked potentials. Just wondering how painful the test truly is. TIA!

A nerve conduction test is where they stick a little needle in the area and send electric shock waves to the area. It is a little painful especially if the nerve is alive. If the nerve is dead, you won't feel anything. The test is done to check to see if there's any activity in the nerve. Some say it doesn't hurt but for me, it did but it does not last long. I have had two done. The first one was done by a nerve specialist in his office. It was a little painful and I did experience some shocking and pain sensations over the next 2-3 days. The second one was done by a neurologist at a university hospital. This one was a lot more painful, and I did have a complication (See my post titled "Damage from EMG?". My complication is not normal, and this has been verified by my own research, another neurologist, and the nerve specialist who did my first one. Just make sure that if you experience anything out of the ordinary during your test, that you discuss it with the person conducting it right then and there. My post is not meant to scare or worry you in any way, but to inform you that it is more than okay to speak up right then if you have any abnormal pains or sensations. I know several people who have had these tests done (incl. my mom), and they didn't have any problems whatsoever.
