Just Diagnosed - Neuropathy Message Board

Hi Everyone,
I went to the neurologist this week because I have problems standing still. I especially notice this in church. I will sway back and forth and then sometimes from side to side. I also tend to fall into things. Well, yesterday he did a nerve induction test and as a result told me that I have systmic peripheral neurropathy. I have been reading some things so I would know what to expect but have really found very little. Could someone please tell me what to expect as I go along. Will I get worse? Are there any meds out there for this? It all seems like a big mystery to me.
On Monday, he has me scheduled for an MRI to make sure I am not having any mini strokes. I am also to have scan of my cartoid arteries. I am thinking that he is very thorough and for that I am glad. I guess I am just a little nervous about the whole big picture. One thing I forgot to mention is that I am 62 years young. Thanks so much, Jackie

Hi Jackie, i am sorry you are having these problems, hopefully your neuro can find the reason why this is happening, there are many possibilities why this can happen, sometimes it can be caused by vitamin deficiencies like low b12, b1, or b6 or even some medications like statins, diabetes, toxins etc, but there are many, many causes which your neuro should test you for.
If your neuro isn't very aggressive in trying to find a cause, i suggest you find a neuro that is a neuropathy specialist, they will give you the best chance in hopefully finding the cause.
I hope the cause can be found and rectified soon.
