hi bob. there are different kinds of biopsies. a sural nerve biopsy looks at the nerve that runs down the lower part of your leg and is done b/c of abnormal NCV or EMG findings. I had an epidermal punch biopsy that specifically looks for small fiber neuropathy. This procedure is done in office and is considered noninvasive. I had no problems with the two sites healing and the biopsy offered some much needed information.
