What doctor for nerve damage?

What's the best type of doctor to see for nerve damage? I'm guessing the neurologist, right? I don't have enough money right now to go to my general doctor for her to just refer me to someone else.

Re: What doctor for nerve damage?

Hi, Your best bet is a neurologist. They can perform tests to see if you do have nerve damage and to what extent. Let me know how you are doing. Hope things work out for you.

I have Pakinsons plus have developed periferal neuopathy on top of that, she a Neuologist did a nerve conduction study which defines if the motor and or sencery nerves are treable in other ways. She said there many news to deal with the problem but in the end if sugury is indicated, I would have to see a orthopetic surgion to do any cutting.

Re: What doctor for nerve damage?

I have to tell you the importance of getting needed surgery in time. I too suffer from Neuropathy (PN) and had surgery of a herniated disc (C-5) in April of 2009. I waited about 4 months before I got help. By the time I had surgery, which by the way went well, and very simple, my doctor told me that I waited too long. The damaged nerves due to compression may take years to regenerate, it they even do at all.

Please find a way to get to the correct physician and get an MRI to check for compression.
