Numbness in feet - Neuropathy Message Board

I am a W/M, 300 lbs, 57 yoa and a TypeII diabetic not taking medication. I have been noticing that the soles and toes of my feel are becoming numb. I am not in pain and have no trouble walking or playing tennis. I wonder if this is nerve related it a result of the diabetese ? I would like to hear from others with similar symptoms and their treatments.

This can be related! My cousin have dibetes, and if she does not take her medicine for a certain amount of time, her toes will become numb!

this is most likely related to your diabetes, the reason you do not have pain is that diabetes impairs the nerves and decreases pain-this accounts for the horror stories such as diabetics waling on pop bottle tops for a week...please take the time to check your feet twice daily for red areas, cuts, blisters etc. consider a trip to the podiatrist to get proper inserts and if the leg is cold or discolored you should see about having an arterial ultrasound to evaulated the bloodflow to your legs.

Big Jerry-PLEASE be very careful with your legs and feet. Since the extremities are furthest away from the heart, they have the worst circulation. If you are diabetic, the nerves could have suffered injury and you may not be able to feel as you normally would. I agree with seeing a podiatrist, at the very least your family doc. In the meantime, make it a point to visually look at your feet 2 times a day. Look on the top, the bottom and between the toes. If looking at the bottom is hard, use a mirror. It is so important to do this, please do it... My uncle lost his leg because he stepped on something and didn't know it... it became infected and developed gangrene... Just check and if you find something, please see your doc and get treatment. Best of luck. Kay
