Neurontin - Time delay? - Neuropathy Message Board

Does Neurontin/Gabapentin take some time to start working? I have been on 900mg for 7 days now, but don't believe I've noticed any decrease in the pain in my feet/toes. I thought it decreased a little on day 4, but now it actually seems worse. I am just hoping someone knows if this may be normal. Maybe I'll notice some benefit in a week or two?

Most people feel results by that time if they are going to. You may need a bigger dose or it may never help you. Everyone seems to react a little differently. I've been on it for 2 yrs. for PN and take 3200mg. a day with very little results except major forgetfulness.

Hey..

New to board. My regular MD prescribed 1800 mg of neurontin a day...then I was advised to decrease it to 900mg by my neurologist because of memory/dizziness. Still, just at two months I think they're experimenting sorta. My ring finger on my let hand is almost useless, and I have considerable atrophy setting in.....hand and arm.

I went to a specialist at Albert Einstein University Hospital in NY and he recommended I take 4000mg of neurontin. I was on 1800mg when I saw him and now at 3600mg. I can now walk and my feet do not burn too much now and the tingling is minimal. I still have problems in cold weather or temperature change. The bad part is the dizziness/memory loss. I have had to up the dosage at 300 mg at a time. I go 3-4 weeks before uping the dosage per doctors instruction to let my body get used to the higher dosage. The specialist said at 1800 mg I was just on day care dosage. I started noticing a difference at 3000 mg. He said he had patients on 5000 mg. a day. My neurologist is following his advice, because he is one of the two acknowledged experts in the country.

Hey man, just give it time! (you know, the 3 wk thing),
I took that for a while and about a week and a half in it through me for a loop. took me 30 min. to flip a sheet of paper over. So my advice is to give it a chance, but if the above happens it's ok, but CALL YOUR DOCTOR, and I hope it works out for you.
