Can anyone help? - Neuropathy Message Board

I just womdered if anyone out there can give me any advice. My Grandma has, neuropathy and spinal stenosis. She is 70 and is crippled with pain. She cannot walk more than about 50 foot max, and thats with a walking fram. She is one loads of painkillers etc (sorry not sure which sort) but they don't seem to help. She frequently can't sleep because of the pain and often ends up in tears over it as she feels so bad. The doctors have told her that there is nothing they can do for her. I find this a little odd as she has not had an MRI scan or anything similar to make a through diagnosis. Is this right or do you think it may be that they think she's too old?
I just wondered what you all thought as I'm close to going and having it out with her Doctor, but just wanted a bit more info.

It may just be that your grandmother's pain is of the multi-focal type and there wouldn't be any point in finding the exact causes since repair would not be possible. In any case, I wouldn't suggest blasting the doc just yet but rather asking him some questions as to what exactly the diagnosis is and if there might be some help to be found if there was further testing done. I am sorry to hear your grandmother is in such a bad state and I hope they can find something which will give her some relief.
