connection between gluten intolerance and neuropsychiatric disorders
is anyone out there familiar with any association with gluten intolerance(celiac disease and d.h.) and neuropsychiatric disorders, ie. depression, social anxiety, bipolar? being bipolar and having been on 30 some odd psychotropic meds over the last 10 yrs, and have not only not been stable but getting worse by the year, i have been researching the possible connection of nutrition and mental disorders. when i came across gluten intolerance and the above associated disorders, i was interested in the fact that i not only have ibs but itchy red pustules(thought it was acne) on face, head, and back. anyone think there is a connection? i would appreciate any input; getting a little desperate. also have symptoms of perpherial neuropathy, headaches, lower leg edema, joint pain, epigastric pain, extreme fatigue, and hypoglycemia. doc's attribute all symptoms to med side effects(believe me i take alot of psych meds), and i am sure they privately think i am psychosomatic. maybe i am, but it sure seems real to me. please help if you can, i need info now! molissa
