Want to end my pain !!

I'm looking for help to end the severe pain I have from Peripheral Neuropathy in both of my feet and legs. I'm on 2400 mgs of Gabpatentin a day which helps somewhat only helping with the numbness of feet. I just had rotator cuff surgery and I was prescribed percocet, 10mgs 4 times a day. As of last week I finished PT and percocet, right away I noticed a big difference in the pain. When I was on percocet and gabapentin I could go out and do things without thinking about pain and now after I stopped taking the percocet I can't walk or climb stairs without pain. I don't know what I should do when I see my Neurologist in a few days because when I mentioned percocets in the past I was told it wasn't going to help. I was given several different kinds of meds instead that had caused side effects that caused me to stop taking them. I can't go to my Neurologist and say that I know what meds will help me with my pain and improve my quality of life. I have been suffering with these pain issues for several years and no hope of any relief until the percocet. Any suggestions from anyone out there would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Want to end my pain !!

Sorry to hear of your dilemma and severe pain. It sounds like to me that you might need to be refereed to a Pain Mgt. clinic. It is my experience that most doctors other than pain mgt. specialists are very reluctant to prescribe any narcotic PERIOD !!!, even a very mild one like perc. You would probably be shocked to hear what I am prescribed but it does give me a better quality of life, that is for sure. Without pain mgt. I don't know exactly what my life would be like but I am quite sure it would be a very pitiful existence as my small fiber neuropathy is very severe in regard to pain. Wish I could be of more help but that is my very best advice.

I.. like you have PN in my feet, legs and w/me also my hands and have since 07. Like you I'm on Gab...but I take 3600mg a day. W/me it helps some w/the pain and numbness which I take as being damn lucky...I'm able to get out of bed in the morning and go to work which is VERY important.

I've taken percs for back pain before but w/me it makes me feel stupid and w/being on the Gab I like to be in more control of what I'm doing...not sure about you but my balance is complete crap...and being on perc's I'd be afraid I'd take a fall more easily.

I can see why your Neuro wouldn't want to give you a scrip for Perc...I agree w/captin and sounds like a Pain Doc is something you should for sure at least check out...

Best of luck finding whatever combo of drugs helps you lead a more complete life.
J
