Feel kind of strange asking this but does anyone else have pain in their actual toenails???
I have SFN & among all the other symptoms my toenails hurt now. Especially once they reach a certain length. They aren't long, but just when they grow to a certain length & are about ready to be cut again, they start hurting & throbbing.
Before I realized I had SFN, my toes would hurt when I went on a long hike. I thought it was because I hadn't trimmed my toenails, but found doing that didn't help. Now I realize this was an early sign of SFN. I bought hiking boots 1/2 size larger, and that solved the problem. I've heard several others with neuropathy say they now buy their shoes 1/2 size larger. Best, Ruby
I had to go a full size larger to keep from causing more pain and problems with the toebox touching me in any way. It really limits what shoes I can wear. Also must wear socks that don't have a seam rubbing the toes.

Hi Ihate2w8 - It may be worth seeing a podiatrist to see if anything else is going on with your feet besides SFN. If you have a dx of neuropathy and are in a medicare HMO (and maybe others), you can get an ongoing referral to a podiatrist so you don't have to go though your primary doctor every time you have a foot problem. Crocs are a great shoe, if the little bumps of the insole area don't bother your feet. - Ruby
