trapped nerves in feet/ankles

hi all i am really needing help on how to get better and what i should be doing.
My current state of affairs is that i have increased burning pain in my foot and ankle/shin area.

This is having an impact on my walking. I have found out that wearing shoes/trainers makes my problem accelerate. I can only walk for around 40 minutes without being in pain that seems to circulate into my feet and back area.

I have pain in my back area (this is really manageable) because of worn discs in my spine. All these problems are a result of a near death experience on ben nevis when i had a twenty foot fall down solid ice (this was one fall of many)

My trapped nerves im sure are a result of impact as i did not suffer this before. I have read that using magnetic insoles help? I have also read that putting my feet into a cold tub of water helps?

I am currently on 300mg gabapentin tablets (6 a day) but the burning pain will not go away. I think i will have to go back to the doctor for increased dosage.

I have also read that using certain creams can help this condition? I am in real need of exercise as i am extremely thin but with my problems i feel
really nervous about doing any form of activity. Are their any types of massage that i can get to help?

Someone please help this problem has been ongoing for over a year now and
i feel its getting worse.

Re: trapped nerves in feet/ankles

You really need to see your Neurologist....maybe an MRI would tell them more.

As for the burning of your feet...I have that every second I'm awake and like you I take Neurontin....but I take 1200mg x3 daily..maybe increasing your dose might help.

I've tried to soaking feet in water...didn't do much for me but give it a shot might help you.

Others here have talked about creams and they being helped but using it..again give it a shot...I will try a lot of things once to see if they can find out why I have PN and if something will help.

Good luck and hope you have a pain less Tuesday.

Re: trapped nerves in feet/ankles

as soon as i found out about my condition from an online website i told my doctors about it and none of them would give me anything. I went to see a new doctor and she put me on 300mg gabapentin 6 times a day. That helped initially but i dont know now.

I will put forward your suggestion and see what they say. About the mri i did ask for one but yet again my doctors REFUSED to put me on the list
I feel as if i cant get the help i need but i cant afford to go private. Like you said i will try different things to see what happens. Thanks for your help i was beginning to feel a real desperation about my illness and thought that there was no help.

As for a neurologist i did look for one but not sure if they are private or very rare. I will ask my doctor if they can refer me to one. What about a podiatrist? I have also been told that shoe types have an impact on this condition

I too started out on a low dose of Neurontin....and since then my PN got worse and my Neurologist(ive seen 4 since 07 looking for answers) up'd my dose until now were its 3600mg a day. Maybe upping your dose will give you some relief..I'm still in pain every second i'm awake but w/the Neurontin I'm able to still work/try and live my life.

One day at a time.

You are NOT alone....

w/your issues getting an MRI shouldn't be a question and sorry you are dealing w/red tape..

there are a lot of people here that have helped me during all this...just ask and a LOT here have answers.

You need to see a Neurologist...

when my feet first started hurting...i went to my regular doctor..no help..he sent me to a podiatrist...no help...then a Neurologist....I've had many zap tests..and blood work...they took part of my left ankle nerve to do a biopsy and even got a spinal tap....none of that told them why I have PN...but hoping one day to find out so it can be treated.

I really hope you find the answers you are looking for...try and stay positive.

Re: trapped nerves in feet/ankles

i found a neurologist today but they are part of a sports clinic. I must do this though but i may wait to see my doctor to refer me to one next wednesday. I know they have them in the local hospital but im thinking the waiting list is going to be huge but on a positive side it wont cost me a penny.

I quoted the private one a price so see what happens and think it out after that.
I also saw a few articles saying that gingko biloba, boswella cream, neuro-eze and zostrixx (capsaicin) are good.

I've been dealing w/PN since 07....had my ups and downs...but after talking w/my wife Kath and some friends I decided there was no way I was going to let PN rule my life like It had been....I stopped going out and having friends over...I hated that due to the PN my balance was awful..I walked like a 100 year old man......BUT after talking w/them I changed my attitude...now I take it one day at a time...realize it could be worse and TRY and stay positive..I do have my bad days but try and get out more..not just stay home...I have a walking stick I use when k and I go out....used hate the way some would look at me...now forget them..not my fault I have PN but I do so need to deal w/it the best I can.

If I can help or you just want to talk post up or pm me.
John

i got sent to this so called specialist but i got a feeling she isnt clued up on neurology. she took me in today and all she did was do acupuncture on my right foot. She also said i need to get the color back in my feet but massaging them vigorously? I really dont know about her.
Get the feeling i have been robbed. go back next week.

I tried to find capsaisin but its prescription only. so will ask doctor

VERY sorry your apt wasn't helpful. Did she take any blood/do a zap test on your feet/legs/hands and or arms? If not what is the purpose of seeing her next week? Maybe to see if the color is back in your feet?

I really hope you get to feeling somewhat better/get someone to give you something that gives you "relief" or at least so that you can live your life.

Keep us updated to how you are.

I hope your Monday and the rest of the week is a pain free one.

no blood, no zap test :\
I had a look at her bio on the wall and it had no experience in neurology.
She was a nurse and studied other things but still no mention. Thats why when i told her about the areas of my foot that were in pain she had no idea.

your the opposite of me then. I have family in the us.
Went to the doctors (they messed up my appointment and gave me a new hopeless one) He refused mri, capsaicin and a neurologist. He also wouldnt trip my severe depression and my suicide problems

The only new thing i got was piroxicam. I canceled his further appointment and got upset with the receptionist who messed me about. I find these visits very stressful and they didnt help me at all.

Starting to get disheartened and frustrated with the help im getting. Will find out next monday if this neurologist is up for the task. Im finding her acupuncture session on my right foot is making it heat up alot more than it used to.

Tried the cream then tried 25 minutes on my bike and no luck the pain came back. Im not sure if its just me but the internet is far better and more useful than any doctor. Maybe we are better than problem solving than they are

Hope your ok john
