Woke w/a Huge Cramp in Calf Muscle, Now Barely Walk? Suggestions?

So this morning I woke at about 4am with a Huge Cramp in my left calf muscle. It was pretty painful. Eventually it stopped and I went back to sleep. Woke up couple hours later and found to be painful to stand up on it, much less walk. Eventually the pain kinda went away so now I can walk but limping. Hurts a little when i touch the muscle. So now I am limping everywhere I go.

My question is, how can I remedy this so I can start walking again? Also, why did this happen? I occasionally get cramps but this is the 2nd time I got a big one to the point I'm limping and cant fully walk. (The first time was about 2-3 yrs ago after I left the gym, so painful I could not drive! had to get a ride and I was limping for a several days/one week).

Thanks.

Hi Anewfoundsin,
This happens to me sometimes and my doc said to drink plenty of water and soak in epsome salt!! It helped to relax the muscles. Hope this helps!!! Good luck...

Could be a lot of things...ie as anewfoundsin suggested just not enough water.

BUT let me throw this out to you...in 04 my calf hurt like CRAZY when I woke up...worked/told my wife I must have slept wrong....this went on for probably 2 / 3 weeks...finally talked w/a coworker that used to be a Nurse..she looked at it and saw a tiny red mark and said I need to get into my doctor asap...she thought I had a blood clot..saw the doctor and yup had my first or 3 blood clots...so if it doesn't go away in a day or 2 keep that in mind.

Hope you and all on the board have a pain free day/week.
J

Could be a low magnesium in the body, epson salt is magnesium or you could try taken some supplements, any magnesium supplement is ok, except magnesium oxide.

good luck

I drank tonic water and it seemed to help a lot. Please make sure it is not a blood clot. You might mention it to your doctor and get it checked if it happens again like that. Best wishes.
