After the diagnosis, what to expect?

Hi, now as my journey continues I am finding walking especially going up & down stairs dificult and with excruiating pain. My feet & ankles are very swollen. It is difficult to walk as each footstep hurts. After sitting it is very difficult to get up, usually needing someone's hand. My feet burn, swell up to the point that they look like they are going to pop. My hands are swollen and difficult to bend. I am in need of stronger pain meds. Do pain patches work?
Is this the normal step that one goes to with NSVN & SFN? Please tell me your story and what helps you. Thanks for your advice. June

Re: After the diagnosis, what to expect?

I used to have problems with stairs and walk with a cane I had already been prescribed a wheelchair. I have found that Tai Chi helps my symptoms and has increased my strength. I still use a cane but the pain and problems have lessened. When I started I could not finish a full class but now I do three classes on Tuesday and Thursday. After several years I am now also riding a bike for thirty minutes a day. It is tough but worth it to stay out of the chair.

Good Luck
