MS or B12 deficiency or both??? how do you know???

So, I've been seeing an MS specialist, but I'm not sure I'm going down the right road.....

I've had optic neuritis twice, numbness/tingling in legs and arms, numbness in my throat. I've been on steroids for MS and b12 injections for the past week. One of those helped my symptoms decrease. However, now I have pins and needles again and muscle twitches - which I've heard can both be signs of a B12 deficiency....But, my MS specialist took me off the B12 injections.

If I do not have lesions on my MRIs, should I pursue the B12 injections? How long until they make me feel better? All of this is sooo frustrating...

thanks!

The easiest way to tell if your B-12 deficient is to get a blood test. I'd suggest getting a full B-panel done. Make sure not to take any B-vitamin supplements for about a week prior to the test or it'll be skewed.

There are a lot of things that can cause B-12 deficiency, such as a vegetarian diet, some meds like PPIs for acid reflux, and malasorbtion conditions such as Celiac. Just so you know, neuropathy is one of the symptoms of Celiac so it might be something to look into.

Good luck and please keep us posted. :)

So my B12 level is, or was 194 and I got 6 days of injections.
I've been a vegetarian for 10 years, although I do eat eggs and cheeses.
And I've been off and on acid reflux meds for 6 months....

I have no lesions on my 4 MRIs, so now I'm waiting to get a spinal tap to
find out if all my problems could be due to b12 deficiency...ugh....
