Deficiencies Perhaps??

I am becoming very worried. I'm a 40 YO F. My fingernails have become extremely fragile and they have visible ridges. I cannot scratch my skin without breaking and/or cracking a nail. A few have cracked and broken down so far they have bled.

This has scared me enough I changed my diet a few days ago. I was a junk-food junkie for a year or so.

I don't know if a diet change is enough though. What can I do about this?

I have never had this problem before.

Re: Deficiencies Perhaps??

You might need more than a diet change. I suggest getting a full nutritional panel done (vits and minerals, including ferritin - have to ask specifically for that one) as well as a thyroid panel (TSH, FT3, FT4, TPO and Tg antibodies).

Both nutritional deficiencies and thyroid probelms can cause thinning and ridges on fingernails.
