My doctor had me come in to see him yesterday to go over my lab results. He said my vitamin d level was 9 and that was extremely low. He prescribed 1,200 units of vitamin d supplement a day.
I live in Michigan where the winter months are cloudy. I would like to go to Florida to get some sunshine, but that isn't financially feasible at this time. Is there anything else I can do to help raise my level?
make sure you dont get constipated . My level is at 8 . I cant take vit d becasue of constipation . I only can get down the chewables 400iu... sit in the sun at home even though its winter . there is also a vit d cream you can use . google it .. its good too
What is the name of the cream that you use? Unfortunately I live in western Michigan where it is cloudy about 90% of the time because of Lake Michigan. I wish I could sit out in the sun--I've been trying to get my husband to take a vacation someplace south where it is sunny and warm.
I like the Vit D3 small gel caps. I had a Vit D of 7 and take 2000 IU a day. The doc told me to take it with a meal because it absorbs better that way. We don't get a lot of sun in South Dakota either So I know just to take the Vit D everyday and I have experienced any problems with the supplement.

Dear janner, I was taking vitD 1000iu a day & my blood level came up 0. Dr told me maybe i dont absorb it. Dr put me on a RX of 50,000iu of vit D/week ×4weeks then 2000iu vit D3/day & i have to repeat the labs. I havent finished the 50,000iu yet. I bought dried plums, boiled 4 ×1 minute, left in hot water for 2-3 minutes, eat twice a week & having no gi problems with the D now.
