Lactose intolerant

I've been diagnosed with lactose intolerance. Has anyone got any tips on how to cope with it? Thanks.

Re: Lactose intolerant

I know it sounds trite, but just don't eat dairy. There is a plethora of 'milks' made from almonds, rice, hemp, soy, or quinoa. Coconut milk yogurt is good for cooking. Get sorbet instead of ice cream. When you go out to eat, ask what the sauces are made from. It is not that hard when you consider the alternative of how bad you feel and all the trips to the restroom when you eat dairy.

Re: Lactose intolerant

They now sell a dairy free milk alternative that tastes like milk called lactaid. I used to give it to my nephew. They also sell a OTC pill you can take before you eat dairy products 30 min in advance. Not to be taken regularly I think... But for those once in a while treats... I believe I've seen it near the acid reflux pills

Re: Lactose intolerant

For me, the Lactaid milk and ice cream never worked. It is regular milk with most of the lactose removed. The pills were helpful for a few years, then stopped working. It depends on your severity. One of the issues with lactose intolerance is that it tends to get worse over time. After 20 years, total avoidance has made my digestive system much happier and healthier.
