| Re: 14 year old who needs weight advice....
Hello! I'm glad you said you're only a little overweight - because you certainly are totally normal, but I understand. I remember being 14 and writing down everything I ate and being so self hypocritical. I was teased for being just a little chunky as a pre-teen. When I was 14 I started dancing - ballet/jazz and found that I really enjoyed it and the extra weight came off. I live where it's very cold all winter, so I also sympathize with that.
I think since Christmas is coming up, you should ask Santa for some beginning workout videos. There are some REALLY fun/funky ones that aren't so boring they put you to sleep. The most important thing is the "fun" factor that make you look forward to exercising. Of course that's only a small part of it, you could exercise 7 days a week and make no progress if your eating habits are sabotaging you. Don't diet, you're still growing and cutting out foods could be harmful (except if you're lactose intolerant LOL) Just eat small meals throughout the day, make wise choices and get the junk out of your house. Try to exercise a couple times a week and just don't worry about it. I totally encourage weight training as part of this - it will not bulk you up, but rather muscle will burn the fat faster and you will feel better as a strong healthy teen! I use 3, 5 & 8lb dumbells and there are MANY videos that you can use to incorporate these. Make a wall chart, use gold stars and reward yourself with a new CD or shoes every month you complete your goals.
good luck!
