~New to this board, and period question~

Hi everyone,
I am new to this board and have a question. I am a 17 year old girl, almost 18, and have very irregular menstrual periods. I started my first period at 13 or 14. My periods are anywhere from 6-8 monthes apart. I am about 5'7 and weight 245. Can being overweight cause you to have such irregular periods? Does anyone else here have this problem?

oh, I forgot to mention that my periods used to be about 2-3 monthes apart. And it seens as I got older they started to come less often.

No, I have not talked to my doctor yet, but I plan to soon. My sister-in-law is a ob-gyn, and I mentioned it to her about my periods being so iregular, but she didn't seem as it being nothing to much to worry about. But, since I started looking on the computer about problems with irregular menstrual cycles, I started to worry a bit. You wrote to me that you had pcos, What are some of the symptoms that you had? I think I could possibly have this.

I to have been diagnosed with PCOS and it's weird I am 5'7 and weigh about 245. My symptoms included: Weigh mainly around my abdomen, skin tags ( little flaps of skin) Pelvic pains (due to the cysts on my ovaries) Ireggular periods and excessive hair growth on my abdomen and face. Not everyone has their symptoms as evident as mine in fact some people with pcos aren't even over weight but its defentily something you want to look into.

That is weird, how old are ya? I am 17, 18 in Dec. I may have pcos, I have alot of weight gain around my stomach. About a year after I started my period I started to gain alot of weight in my stomach, and just a few monthes ago, I got bad stretch marks on most of my stomach. Also, I have a little bit of hair on the upper part of my stomach, it's not too bad. It's like little blonde hairs. But this may be cause I have blonde hair. I am going to the doctor next week, and I will mention Pcos to her.
