Re: weight problem

to temporarily lose weight yes you can reduce your calories and lose weight, mostly muscle will be lost in the first couple of weeks, you can tell if it is muscle by the scale, if the scale says a large amount of weight lost but only losing one size or less you have lost muscle.

fat is bulkier, 3 pounds is a size, muscle is denser and heavier and takes up way less space, so you can lose by famining, but it will not be permenent. your body will eventually resist your efforts at mainteance since unfed hunger is maladaptive or works against survival and your body will not allow that, not without a fight.

some manage to keep up the fight against their bodies and maintain a fairly reduced weight, the trouble is these are called anorexics.

can I give you a suggestion? don't ever lose weight to get or keep a guy, if he loves you he would not want you to hurt your health for the sake of vanity. he is not worth it and really you are too young to worry about a relationship, you have alot of growing up to do mentally emotionally and hopfully spiritually. do not set yourself up for dissappointement or to be used by guys, I seen such sad things my whole time during jr high school and high school.

you need to concentrate on being a kid and your education, you will have plenty of time with getting a guy and hopefully spending the rest of your life with. in the future once you realize what you really want out of life. don't get on the diet treadmill and all it's horrible misery it causes honey, you deserve better.

north carolina by the way is a beautiful state.

Re: weight problem

Melissa
did you mean to say you have tried throwing up--vomiting? please don't go that route, bulemia is a serious disease--it will eventually cause your teeth to rot and the acid can burn holes in your esophogus--BAD NEWS!! no boy is worth a possibly life threatening eating disorder--and yes, people do die from them. If you want to lose weight, you must do it for yourself- not anybody else, or it won't work for any length of time.
i know right now it feels like this relationship with this boy, or any boy, is everything, but please know, in a month you will have a new crush and this boy will mean nothing to you. i truly remember how hard it can be to look at the big picture, but please try. have fun with your friends, you have the rest of you life to mess around with boys. please write if you have more questions, jessica

Re: weight problem

i agree that you should not lose weight for a guy. I would suggest trying to find an activity that you enjoy doing such as walking or biking and try to start doing that every 4 or 5 days. Then I would start writing down what you are eating and at the end of the day try to figure out what you could change to make it healthier. Maybe sit down with a parent or your school nurse. But, I would not suggest trying to cut out all of the foods that you enjoy, that will just make you want more later. I think the trick is finding a balance. Good luck.
