OK this is a serious question - has anyone ever tried chewing food & then ....

....spitting it out. This way maybe one could enjoy chocolate or whatever but not take in any calories?? You may say this is wasteful but what 'better good' does it do to swallow it?

I don't think this would work well. For a lot of people, the pleasure they get from food is the swallowing of it. Just having a taste and spitting it out would be hard to do, the taste is only half the fun.

Paul, I think that would be a good idea for an occassional goodie. Otherwise, I suppose it could (potentially) pose a problem for some. (Extremes, of course.) I have to laugh though, because I did something similar to your suggestion. When I was REALLY in "diet mode", on Atkins, I wouldn't dream of eating a piece of pizza. So, when plating some for my teens, I stood over the pizza box, mouth opened, and inhaled slowly so I could "taste" it. Heck, it worked!

It is very logical when it comes to calories, but I would not consider this behavior (if you do chew & spit)...I really beleive this could lead to an eating disorder - I'm not joking, because I do suffer from an E.D....that is just "1" of the things I did, to keep calories low...forming habits like that, can lead to more restrictive means of holding back calories.

I agree. Because this is kind of gross, you wouldn't do it when other people are around, and I don't think being secretive about what you are eating (or spitting out) is healthy, and I don't see this secretive behavior leading to anything good.
