I recently started taking topamax, 100mg, at night because I toss and turn like crazy and throw things in my sleep and need a medication so I will wake up in the morning and not oversleep (I probably have periodic limb movement disorder, but can't afford a sleep study).
One of the side effects of that medication is weight loss, but I didn't know if I would notice anything being 280 pounds and only taking it at night. I wasn't going to go on a diet or anything as I didn't have the energy to devote to starting one, etc.
So far I have lost about ten pounds since I went on it and I really have not been as hungry and have been eating less. I don't feel the urge to eat as often. My doctor had been urging me to lose weight ( I also put on fifty pounds about a year ago that no one was found of) because of my GERD and a rare nerve problem I have in my abdomen and they are glad to see that I am affected by this side effect. And I was reading a little bit about the medication online and saw that it is sometimes prescribed just for weight loss.
Has anyone had any experience with it?
