"Stones" - Possibly dumb question - Obesity Message Board

1 stone is 14 pounds.

For those who weigh in stones, can you tell me if there is a smaller unit of measurement.

Here, in the US, we weight by pounds. Many of us are so anal that we know our weight down to the 1/2 pound.

So, is a stone as precise as it gets? It seems to me that a person who weighs 10 stones has a pretty wide range of possible weight compared to the pound. I'd go nuts if my weight was that non-specific and I had to lose the equivalent of 14 pounds before the measurement changed. Yet I never see any posts where someone says they weigh anything more than a whole number/stone.

Is there more to this?

I live in the UK. I'm American and it took me a while to get my head 'round a stone in weight. Anything under a stone is weighed in pounds. At least that's what I was told. So, currently, I actually weigh 14 stone, 6 pounds. Hope this helped...if any more queries, be glad to help!
