My dear friend is an insulin-dependent diabetic whose weight has rocketed in the last few years, since she began taking shots. What age is the cutoff for bariatric surgery? I have read 60, but my friend is in her mid-70's. She is interested in weight loss surgery, but I am afraid she is past the age cut off. She is not ready to give up though! Any informed opinions would be helpful. Thanks.
I think this is where you just need to review the internet. I know there have been concerns about extremely young people having the procedure, but nothing about the other end of the scale.
I'd highly recommend that your friend speak with a local surgeon that performs GB, and get their opinion. I know it hurts that your friend might be in for a big dissappointment if she's not qualified due to age.
There is one new procedure that I'm trying to gather info on, its the MGB (Mini Gastric Bypass) done by a surgeon in Nevada. Gil Gerard (the actor) underwent this half hour procedure by Dr. Rutledge really helped him.
