Smile Gastric Sleeve

Hello out there. I am new to this and I am in search of input on the gastic "sleeve" out come. I am really leaning on this procedure and have a consult scheduled Feb 5, 08. My husband is scared to death and does not want me to have this done. He thinks I'm going to die. I don't think he really understands how I feel, and what I need. What I see, this is much safer phyically and less evasive. If I am wrong, would someone please shed some light from there own experience or someone they know. I think I have made up my mind But I would like to ease his.
thanks!

Re: Gastric Sleeve

My husband had the sleeve done 2 years ago and it was a godsend. He no longer needs a c-pap to sleep, he is off his blood pressure med, and his health in general has improved more than we could ask for. The procedure was done laposcopic and he was out of the hospital in 2 days. He was standing at his bedside and sitting in a chair 2 hours after surgery. The first post op day, he was walking the halls. He has had no complications or problems since surgery. The two things I would ask your surgeon is--How big of a sleeve does he leave. My husband's is 30 cc. Many times the surgeons in the US leave 50 to 60 cc and patients gain some of the weight back. With a 30 cc sleeve it is almost impossible to gain weight unless you eat nothing but high calorie, high fat foods. The smaller sleeve just doesn't allow you to eat a lot yet you can eat anything that you want just less of it. The second thing is, if you have your gallbladder, does your surgeon go ahead and remove it at the time of surgery. If not, will he remove it at that time? The weight loss from the surgery is fast and almost everyone I know that had the surgery and didn't have their gall bladder removed had to go back to surgery in less than 6 months and have it removed. I personally know of 10 people who have had a sleeve done and not one of them has had a problem and each of them would not hesitate to do it again. The people I know that have had a roux n y or gastric banding have all gained some of their weight back or had problems with the gastric band.

Cool Re: Gastric Sleeve

Helper08,
Thank you so much for the reply. I am printing it and showing this to my husband. The Doctor I am going to does 60-150 cc sleeve. I did not know anything about the gallbladder thou. Thank you for that tip. He is located at Cleveland Clinic, Weston, Fl. What I have read it seems to be the only one I have found in Florida.
I am pretty fortunate at this time and don't have any medical problems. BUT I don't want any either. I'm 44 and 280. I will behappy to lose 100, but thrilled with 130. I haven't seen that weight since high school. The other question is the loose skin afterwords? is there other ways to assist with getting it to shrink? I know everyones case is different. But I'm sure there are secrets out there.

I'm getting excited about my appointment and am looking forward to changing my life. I know my horse "Romeo" will appreicate it!!!

Re: Gastric Sleeve

This procedure is fairly new so any information on post surgery would be great.
