It isn't easy to lose weight and keep it off if you eat for emotional reasons, as I have struggled with that myself. I have done pretty well, have mostly kept off the weight I lost, and when I start the bad habits again I don't let it go on for too long before I get back on track.
I eat fruits and vegetables, lean meat, and not too much in the way of starches, especially white, refined ones. I drink skim milk and eat yogurt, and take vitamins. I pour a tiny bit of juice in my water to flavor it, or drink it plain. I take vitamins and exercise 30-40 minutes every day. It works! I lost 55 lbs. and I DO have thyroid problems, but that's pretty well controlled with synthetic thyroid hormone for more than 10 years now. I burn a lot less calories than I used to, that's for sure.
I'm normal weight now and grateful. It's well worth the effort to keep it off, as it sure helped my self-esteem.
Good luck!! You can do it and enjoy many many years of your best appearance possible

Oh, and I draw, paint, take walks when I'm bored or sad, or just live thru it and wait for the sadness to pass
