Unhappy heart broken...

I consider myself to be overweight as i have red stretch-marks on my thighs, legs, hips and upper arms and am quite tubby. i can't wear short sleeved tops without people gawking, which makes me uneasy. i also have a broken heart. you may think it sounds silly but it is true. i have reasonably skinny friends and i always see they guys in my school hugging them or kissing them and looking at them, but their eyes always pass over me and they don't like to be more than friends. It also seems like they don't like me even as a friend, coz i am quite firey and have my own opinon and they don't like a girl that can stand up for herself. its not that im jelous but i just wish that one of them would look at me long enough to see whats on the inside.

Emz,

i wish i had your courage in school to at least have spoken up about things. I was a quite one, but now, I am over that. I have HUGE granny arms I mean big, like they need the thigh cuff to take my blood pressure from me, and this summer I finally decided to go sleeveless, can you believe it? Look, see if there are some types of creams that can help you out with your marks if they are not helping your self-esteem. Start getting information and things you need while you are young and don't wait until your in your 20's like me to finally start asking doctors and family members to be supportive of your feeling good about yourself.

And I bet, there is a guy at your school who likes that fiestyness, so don't give that up. Being a strong woman is not a bad thing, if anything, you will see as you get older you will be appreciated for your views. But right now high school? is just that, and when your off to college everything changes, because those kids will not dictate your life, but you will.

Keep your head up always. and in the meantime, do things that make you feel good about yourself. a manucure, pedicure, hair stylist, shopping. Do what' makes you look good and feel good on the inside according to you and you alone.

I hope this helps, if not, I tried.
Stella

hi emz
I'm sorry you're having a tough time because of your weight. Being young and in school is tough enough without the added burden of being overweight. One day I promise you, the right guy will come along and will notice you...you, yourself, not the outside packaging God happened to wrap you in.

I'm speaking from experience here. I got fat after my divorce after having been really thin all my life. In case you think I'm one of those people who think they are fat when they're really only 5 pounds over their desirable weight, I will tell you that I am 5'5" tall and weigh 200 pounds (I weighed 110 when I was in school). So I really am fat. And I didn't think any man (that I would want to be with) would ever find me attractive. But I had several guys who dated me and I married one of them last February. A really wonderful guy. And he really loves me.

Unfortunately, you might have to wait until you are a bit older to find such a guy. Most boys are way too immature. They are hung up on physical appearance and also worry about what their friends will say if they date a gal who's overweight. Men, real men, don't worry about these things. If you want a chuckle, try watching the movie "Shallow Hal" and maybe that will help lift your spirits.

Good luck to you. Kvanrijn
