Thumbs down EATING ALL THE TIME/FOR NO REASON!!

Hello All! I jump from topic to topic and always have something to say. It seems that my personal problems are bigger than I once thought because I can adapt to half of these boards!
My issue is that I am obviously overweight and I eat constantly! I love food! I eat when I'm happy, sad, mad, depressed, bored......I was always a thin child and teenager, though I thought I was always overweight. I gained 67lbs with my first pg and lost it all 4 months after delivery. But here I am, 10 years later, weighing what I weighed when I delivered my first child! ALL 67LBS of it!!!
I have tried Weight Watchers and it works, but I can't ever stick to it. I guess old habits die hard! I have tried Redux, Meridia and Xenical as well as various herbal products, shakes and patches. YES, I am looking for the miricle weight loss product!
I don't know what to do with myself. I consider myself fairly smart and average looking, but this weight issue makes me a failure and I hate it. I know the real way to lose weight is by diet/exercise, but how does one get there???? I'm so frustrated and sick of looking the mirror...HELP!! anyone ??

Try looking up "compulsive eating" or "compulsive overeating" on the Internet. What you describe sounds like this eating disorder to me (I'm not a doctor and I don't even play one on TV).

There are LOADS of books available on this topic as well. I just bought a couple of books by Geneen Roth last night and will post after I've had a chance to read them to let you know what I think.

Chelle!! Thanks so much for the advice. I think the compulsive OVER eating definately sounds like me. I can eat 3 meals a day, but I eat enough at each meal for 3 people! Today for lunch, I ate a 20pc chic/nuggets and a hamburger and pop. Whats the sence in that? I brought food home for the daycare and eat eat eat !! Stupid! Now, as I sit here and type this, I'm about sick because I'm so full! Sometimes, I wish I had the guts to just puke it up! I'm such a dork! -J

You have 2 choices here, as I see it. First choice is to increase your metabolism, thereby burning more calories. The alternative to that is to eat less, reducing your intake. Of course you always have more intrusive ways; stomach staples, bypass, and probably some ohters, all dangerous and expensive. Your problem is most likely a mental disorder, most compulsions are. You may need to see a clinical psychologist to get to the root of your need/desire to graze frequently and in abundance. Never say the word "diet" they don't work. The key is to eat everything you do now, but in much smaller quantity. Get rid of all dishers, larger that 7 in dia. cut everything you eat into small pieces, even a piece of candy, quarter it so that you are popping 4 pieces into your cake hole. This may sound bizarre, but it works. When you fill the small plate, hopefully with veggies, as well as other items, that is the only plate you will eat until the next feeding. Cook only enough food for that particular meal, no more, no left overs. If you mis calculate, feed it to the dog. It isn't anymore wasteful to throw away leftovers that to eat them. Zeoro value for overeating, actually detrimental. You will know that you are succeeding when you begin to peek towards the mirror and think about weighing yourself. This new lifestyle will cause your body to conform to the new program, but it will take some time, just as it took time to make yourself look and feel yucky. The last part is really hard but necessary. Always leave a bite on your plate to throuw away. You rule the food this way, not visa versa...After eating, drink a 12 oz glass of water, wait 30 minutes and then go for a short walk, 10 to 3o minutes round trip, your choice. You will love the new you, beginning 10 days from the first meal..Always eat a breakfast, cereal or mush or grits or 2 eggs with a piece of plain toast. It really is an important meal. Your lunch meal should be your main meal, ie meat, veggie, peaches or fruit coctail or a fresh piece of some fruit. Dinner should be a small meal, inclusive of a salad with a dash of salt pepper lemon juice and a teaspoon of mayo and ketsup, or skip the mayo and ketsup and add a teaspoon of olive oil and vinegar. good luck, food doesn't rule, you do...
