My List Of Compulsions,Obsessions And Tics

Although these have been over the past 20 years (now 34) here are some of my quirks.

1. Nodding my head
2. Grinding my teeth (while awake)
3. Grunting
4. blinking
5. Sucking my lip,
6. Worring I have Aids and/or Cancer
7. Worrying I have a girl pregnant with no intercourse
8. Touching the light switch and maybe turning it on/off a few times
9. Pushing the clutch on my car even though I don't have to change gears
10. Holding the car window button even though the window is finished closing.
11. Touching whatever at any time when the need suddenly appears.
12. Sniffling constantly.

Thank God these things have happened over 20 years, cause I think I would have too admit myself to the Boobey Hatch if they weren't spread out.
My god, you don't realize all the B.S. you go through till you see it itemized in front of you.

Thanks for listening.

Re: My List Of Compulsions,Obsessions And Tics

Heres my list:

1. turning lights on and off in an uneven amount of times, usually 3 or five.

2. Locking and unlocking the car door.

3. putting the window up and down till it is in a certain spot of have to redo it.

4. When typing, if I make a typo, instead of just erasing the word, I will delete The entire section.

5. I have Bulimia

6. I cannot stop spending money

7. I really think I have every disease I read about.

8. I cannot stop trying on clothes, weighing myself etc... and yes I do post on eating disorders too.

9. I get dressed a certain way each day in the same order.

10. I count as I walk

11. I worry about everything! I even worry that if I am relaxed, I might start to worry again.

12. I always think I am being talked about.

13. For years, I did lots of drugs at clubs and used to smoke cigarettes.

By the way, I have a great job, wonderful fiancee who loves me, Everyone tells me I am beautiful, nice, smart, and funny.

What the hell is wrong with me? Why am I always stressed. For as long as I remember, I have always been obsessed with oral fixations. As a baby I always sucked my thumb, then it eas biting my nails, then smoking, eating, now I can't stop chewing gum. I take Wellbutrin and adderall (A.D.D) and do not feel much different. I tried Zoloft and Prozac and felt like I was having a bad acid trip. Whew! sorry for the babble!

I don't even know what does what anymore. I still have just as many bad days as good days so I can't even tell.

Re: My List Of Compulsions,Obsessions And Tics

Mine:

1. I must turn on the cold water right before I get out of the shower.

2. I have to rinse my hands with water if I turn on a fan or mess with the thermostat.

3. Only even numbers, like in public restrooms I can only go in the 2nd,4th, etc. stall./ and when pulling of paper towels must be in even number of sheets.

4.The buttons programed my radio stations in the car can only be pushed in clockwise order, if I want to turn off the car and I'm on #3 I have to push them all around again until I get to the station that I must leave it on every time I get out.

5. I have to pray before I use shampoo, and then before I use conditoner LOL! Thats so rediculous but I've had to do that for years....

6. Constant prayer, where I must pray everything In mostly the same order every time. The prayer helps me get through things though.

7. I have given my friends so many new outfits because I wore them once and they becam "bad luck", or either I just had a weird feeling about wearing it once I got it.

8. I can't use avon makeup bc it bad luck, and some other items I don't use because they make me "fat" I think this came from when I was heavy and made fun of and I used these before I lose alot of weight.

9. I have to pull of a peice of toilet paper and drop it in the toilet before I use some.

10. I have to splash water on one side of the shower first to close the curtain, then the other. I never realized how stupid these things are till I just wrote them down, but its really so depressing to have to deal with constant complusions and anxiety every day of my life.

Cool Re: My List Of Compulsions,Obsessions And Tics

1. Used to turn counter clockwise until it felt "right."
2. Can't step on cracks. If I do, I have to step on another crack with my other foot and in the same area of that foot.
3. Chew my lips.
4. Rub my teeth with my tongue.
5. Sniff or scratch my nose.
6. Symmetry
7. While eating M&Ms (my favorite food group!) I have to eat two at a time. I prefer two of the same color, but it's not as important to me as it used to be.
8. Clean my bum excessively after going poo.
9. Hand washing. Not too bad. I just need to rinse. I don't scrub and use a ton of soap.
10. Hair pulling and skin picking.
11. Obsess over what people think of me. (I HATE being a people pleaser!!!!!)
12. I have to have access to a clock/watch. Especially at night so I know how much time I have left to sleep. It drives me crazy to stay in hotels without an alarm clock.

There's more, but i'm too depressed now to keep going.

I'm also so obsessive over perfection that I edited this stupid thing because I found a typo.

Re: My List Of Compulsions,Obsessions And Tics

I know its crazy, even crazier when you do write them down. Writing them down seems to make them more real.
I'M still trying to find out how this happened to me ? From where or whom did I inherit this condition ? However stress seems to really bring out my OCD ! So I try to avoid all stressful things, kind of hard when thats a part of life !

Re: My List Of Compulsions,Obsessions And Tics

i read somewhere when i was younger in a psychology book about tics and one of them was sholder licking, which really shocked me cause when i was younger and wore a shirt with no sleeves i licked my right shoulder....glad i dont do that anymore!

i cant really think of any of mine right now except i used to have to do things symetrically sp? alot of mine have finally left me alone.
although i do walk around spraying the holy heck out of my house with lysol like 20 times a day! and if i go outside then when i come back in i have to wash or sanitize my hands. (and i make everyone else that comes in my house do the same except sometimes i dont ask cause i feel crazy for asking, but when they leave i have to get out my lysol.

Re: My List Of Compulsions,Obsessions And Tics

I sometimes wonder if I am really me. Do you ever wonder if your personality is the way it is because its you, or because its your OCD's effect on you ?
Sorry if I seem a little philisophical, but latley I seem to question alot of things.
My OCD is like that little Devil/Angel (Hardly the later) on my shoulder telling me what to do.
I wish it would all go away !

Re: My List Of Compulsions,Obsessions And Tics

My list of obsession, compulsions, and tics:

~grinding my teeth
~excessive swallowing
~some hair pulling
~I scratch my skin/pinch myself if I'm EXTREMELY nervous
~obsessed with body perfection
~constantly pinch/measure fat on my body
~check my butt/chest/stomach to see if I look fat in the mirror several times a day

I know there are more, but I can't think of them. All of this was, on a scale of 1-10 about a 7 and now it's down to being a 2 or 3.

I used to have the constant prayer one, but thankfully it went away. I was terrified of god smiting me down...I think my catholic upbringing contributed to this. Changing religions seemed to help a lot. I've been buddhist for a long time now.

I thought I was the only one who did that toilet paper thing! I can't use the first bit because it might have touched the floor and been re-rolled or someone else might have touched it--even in my own bathroom.

Re: My List Of Compulsions,Obsessions And Tics

Okay...here's my abridged list since I enjoyed reading everyone else's so much...
1. hair twisting
2. picking/scratching imperfections (used to gouge them out...meds do help!)
3. having the damned mexican hat dance repeat over and over in my head...sometimes having to "sing" along.
3. counting
4. must wash hands *before* using the bathroom
5. Must carefully inspect public bathrooms before using. Often switch stalls after going in and locking door.
6. use paper towels or tuck hands into sleeves touching public door handles.
7. compulsive list making
8. tooth brushing many many times a day
9. weight obsessions
10. figeting...leg shaking, twisting rings on fingers, rubbing fingers together, sniffling
11. any time I'm alone when people are outside...bathroom, empty room etc. will often have to do fifth position leg lifts 10 times or 10 second position plies (ballet people will know what this is) before returning to the group. I'm *not* a dancer. I haven't taken ballet since I was about 6 or 7.
12. Loud sighing
13. The toilet paper thing I talked about before.
14. Cannot touch the floor/shoes/things contaminated by the floor unless heavy washing follows.
15. Wake up, take a bath, go back to bed (feeling filthy mid-sleep)
16. Disease obsessions
17. Must check email loads of times a day, even if I know nothing is there.
18. Cannot think if a room is cluttered. Places (stores and things) with too much stuff overwhelm my brain. Same with too much noise. Two conflicting sounds (two radios on different stations, trying to listen to people carefully with loud music on) will make me panic.
19. Cannot stand strangers touching me.
20. *Must* clean house every day, moving furniture is a bonus. Cannot function if house is not at least reasonably clean. Can't understand hoarding. Throw things out constantly. Must be no unpleasant smells whatsoever. (Have pets...very *very* clean pets. The dogs would probably like it a lot if I'd let them get dirtier. If they aren't squeaky clean after their walks, they get a bath immediately...can't even touch the floor indoors till they are clean. All my pets are indoors and are held to a very high standard of cleanliness. They don't get thrown out though. I love them dearly and have spent my life working for rescue groups as an adoption counselor/animal care specialist at vet clinics/dog trainer. (just a bit about my non-psycho side.)

There are more, but that's enough. Am I a big weirdo or what?

I hate "sharing the peace" at church. Shaking hands (even with people I know) bugs me! I'll shake hands with someone when I first meet them - I have the firmest handshake of any woman you'll ever meet - but being forced to shake hands and do so many times over puts me in a mild panic attack.
