Would someone tell me what the qualifications are for a person to go into a hospital based on a mental illness? Do they have to be considered a threat to themselves or to others, or are there other qualifications?

a doc may refer you to a psych or someone to asses you, a lot also depends on whether any beds are available, or how crouded they are

would you like to tell us whats wrong

Just asking--I've always wanted to know.
Also, what would they do in a mental hospital?

I was sent to the hospital by my ex doc, in 2002...basically they get your information, whats going on with you etc...they out you in a room with another person u share the room with they let you see the hospital doctor and u talk with him he most likly will end up putting you on medication they wake u up everyday ur in there at the same time they check your physical health as well u will get to talk to a therapist they tell you to go to this group class they do in the hospital and if you get better or whenever they decide they release you...
