My 8yr Old Ocd/adhd&strattera - Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) Message Board

HI, I,M THE MOTHER OF 4 BOYS. MY OLDEST IS 8YRS OLD. HE WAS DIAOGNOSED LAST FEB.WITH OCD/ADHD.THE DR. PUT HIM ON PAXIL FIRST-THE DEVELOPED INSOMNIA.HE IS CURRENTLY TAKING STRATTERA(HES BEEN ON IT FOR ABOUT 5 1/2 MONTHS)SINCE LAST OCT. HE HAS LOST 10LBS

MY SON HAS ALSO BECOME VERY AGRESSIVE TOWARDS MY MIDDLE 2 SONS(THEY'RE 4 1/2 AND 3 MY YOUNGEST IS 6 MTHS),HE HAS "TEMPER TANTRUMS",AND HE TRYS TO BE VERY CONTROLLING WITH EVERYONE.I KNOW THIS IS ASIDE EFFECT FROM HIS MEDS.MY QUESTION IS IS THERE ANOTHER MED WITH LESS SIDE EFFECTS. HE IS A VERY INTELLEGENT,SPIRTUAL,LOVING(NORMALLY)AND ALL AROUND GREAT KID!!!!
ANY SUGGESTIONS WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED!

Make sure of the diagnosis.
Initially the said my son is autistic- then another said PDD - then another said selective mutism - the high functioning autism and now regressive development.
OCD is typical of autism.
never trust one doctor.

Do you have eccentric parents or parents in - law. Anyone "strange" in the family?Autism is a massive spectrum.

I`m OCD - my dad was/is very strange - and now my son.

It is all genetics

thank you!! after reading your message i thought about our family history,my brother is manic,ihave members who suffer from panic disorders,i always thought of myself as "normal" but ive always had my own style -iguess you could say alittle ocd.his fathers side he has a uncle who is add. at first they said his disorders stemmed from me marring someone other than his real dad, then they said its because i had 3 more kids in 5 years - i never did believe any of that.rys IQ is way above the normal child his age he reads at a 6th grade level he gets straight a's
