OCD and washing? - Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) Message Board

I was just recently diagnosed with OCD and am on Wellbutrin and Celexa for it. I have been on Wellbutrin for about 6 months now - the Celexa was just added to help with the OCD.

Is it unusual to have OCD related to personal hygiene? I am obsessed with showering, brushing my teeth - anything related to my own personal cleanliness. I guess I always thought of OCD related to the cleanliness of your surroundings, not necessarily personal hygiene. My showers are insanely long now and when I can I will shower 2 or 3 times daily. I will brush my teeth up to 6 times in a row. I also use a ton of soap, shower gel, shampoo, etc.

Also - I am concered about gaining weight on the Celexa. Does anyone have experience being on both Wellbutrin and Celexa?

OCD related to personal hygiene is fairly common. What you describe is OCD. It doesn't have to deal exclusively with ones surroundings instead of personal hygiene. I too am on Celexa. I have experienced a weight gain while on it yes, but my doctor said it should level off and I won't continue to gain more weight. Exercise would be a plus in that area he told me. I find that Celexa has helped me. While I still have obsessions, I don't have them 24/7 like I used too. I don't take Wellbutrin with Celexa so I can't tell you what to experience. I have taken Wellbutrin before but that was a couple years ago and it wasn't for OCD. Celexa though has definately helped me with my OCD.

isnt celexa like lexapro i heard lexapro will help my ocd im starting it tomorrow.. thx
