Any OCD'ers in peak physical shape?

Hello everyone, I have a really nasty case of OCD that I dont really want to discuss on here, as well as severe depression because of it. I read in one post that Pure "O's" isnt as debilitating ie housebound, but thats exactly how Ive become. I avoid people because my obsessions are so strong I become lost in my own thoughts when people are talking to me and my mood is always awful with people asking whats wrong its too tedious to be around people like this. A few years ago I was put on Prozac which was a miracle for me and worked for quite a bit.... That is... until it didnt anymore. The prozac stopped working after some time known as the "prozac poop-out" and Ive been trying different meds ever since. I went back to prozac which worked well again, for a short period, then stopped again. Now somehow, something in my body has changed. All SSRI drugs are now giving me severe headaches (even prozac) so I am now trying a natural approach, using 5-htp for serotonin some l-tyrosine st johns wort and am also on depakote as my psychiatrist diagnosed me as having bipolar, because I newver told her about the obsessions (they are too embarassing and shameful.) I am thinking of adding a heavy workout routine and my main reason for making this post was to see if there was anyone on the board with ocd who is in great physical shape. I am determined to try everything necessary to regain my life, now all i have to do is quit smoking, lol, i only lasted 5 minutes of billy blanks bootcamp. Anyway my question was about anyone being in good shape yet still having symptoms, i only typed out the rest to give u a better idea of where im coming from. I wish u all the best and appreciate and advice and words of inspiration. BTW has anyone here cured themselves or know someone who rid themselves of OCD. I know many doctors say its incurable but then again so is cancer but people have been rid of it.

Sinn

Re: Any OCD'ers in peak physical shape?

Hey man, Im sorry to hear you also suffer from symptoms, as my theory was that being in peak physical shape would probably decrease symptoms. If its not too much trouble would u mind listing the types of symptoms and how severe they are, how long youve had the symptoms, and what your diet is like. Can u tell me what vitamins u take, and have u tried amino acids like 5htp, serotonin booster. I have decided that if I am gonna releive myself of this mental hell, I must give it my all including becoming extremely active, trying new suplements treatments whatever it takes. It sux to hear that the answer is so unclear but I hope you wont mind sharing some info with me. Also if youd rather not talk about it I completely understand and thank you for your response.

well i wash my hands alot i have repeatative thoughts but they seem to get less and less and i open doors with napkins etc. i do workout lift weights and ride a bike at the gym.i take a amino acid whey protein supplement drink i have 3xs a day good for muscle tone and speeds up your metabolism i take a centrummulti vit, an omega 3 complex, a multi mineral coplex , vitamin e , and vitamin c these all do help very well without my vitamins i couldnt feel as good thats the honest truth. ive never messed with 5htp or serotonin boosters but im gonna start lexapro.and if i dont workout or eat my vits or eat healthy i feel worse.i dont drink caffeine people think thats nuts, i eat oatmeal, rice, chicken, pasta, beef just eat alot of clean foods you see a difference.

Re: Any OCD'ers in peak physical shape?

Hey, I have OCD and I find that going to the gym helps out a lot. When I was at my worst I feared getting my heart rate up thinking something would happen and I would pass out, but I was able to get by that and now I find that the endorphins I get from working out make me feel so much better and it increses my self-esteem which gives me more confidence and an ability to try controlling my OCD symptoms. It's a nasty fight but worth it. I would definetly recommend taking up some sort of exercise routine as well as healthy eatting.
