How do i get my mind off this one subject. I always think about it

Has anyone had a situation where one thing is always on their mind.
You cant get your mind off that one subject.
When you think about that subject, you get alot of stress, anger attacks and just feel miserable.
This is my situation.
Any advice on how to get my mind off this one subject.

Re: How do i get my mind off this one subject. I always think about it

I have had this happen to me. It was a nightmare for this thing I kept thinking up to control my emotions.

The way out for me was not to fight the thoughts. Just let them come up full force. I used to be afraid of the thoughts and was very upset when they came up. I felt like I had no escape and was trapped by these thoughts.

In this way it took the power of the thoughts away from me. The more I aired the thoughts they started to lessen more nad more until they no longer rules me. I even said the thoughts out loud to myself and that took the fear of the thoughts away.

Also, in my case this type of obbessive thinking is a part of my OCD. So, I am now taking medication for my OCD.

I don't have this problem anymore.

hey man, its alright , your not the only one in this world that has these type of thoughts, it happens to all of us , esp when depressed, i get alot of thoughts and they tend to scre w with you, like the most ridiculous thoughts, and they keep on repeating, dismornign has been bad for me with this type of thing, but it gets better just keep your mind occupied on something else, i know its hard though

It is hard, but you aren't alone. I've been going through it now for two weeks straight. And because of it, me and my husband have been fighting non-stop. It sucks, but remember it will pass.

Re: How do i get my mind off this one subject. I always think about it

I have both OCD and Asperger's, so I get a double whammy in the case of obsessive thoughts and fixations. I get the "bad" obsessions typical of OCD, such as blasphemous, violent, and sexual thoughts, as well as fear of general sorts about everything under the sun, but I also get "good" obsessions where I literally can't think about anything else besides my perseverations caused by my Asperger's; examples are quotes and scenes from A Beautiful Mind, I Love Lucy, and chemistry...

hey i get these. im not OCD diangosed altho im gona c about it at da docs. ive often wondred if that is a symptom. is getting certain thoughts that repeat and repeat OCD? i spend most of my day going along thinking about the same things over and over, the same idea, the same scenario until it looses steam or it feels'done' or 'thought thru to completion'. sumtimes they r happy thoughts(rarley) but most of the time theyre pretty morbid or negative, either that or complelty meaningless. im sorry im not of much help i just wana ask what the rest of u think-is this a symptom.

if it helps, i usually go for a long walk and try and think the whole thing out, but usually it just comes back later. but u cud try things to focus ur mind on sumthin else. good luck
