Maybe you did'nt see it , or did'nt understand it .. so here goes a whole thread!

You once said me that intelligence works against us if we have OCD. Exactly what did you mean by this? , you meant to say that intelligence tells us what is right, in few cases? and if we have OCD then that 'possible real' thing keeps on repeating in our mind.. I mean .. while being obsessed by something unreal , we May think something totally real .. then don't you think that ignoring other 'real' stuff will be a stupid thing..

Just post some comment about it ( or anyone else ) .. this thing has stuck in my mind!

Nah sorry man, I didnt see your question before. What I meant by intelligence working against us in OCD is that being smart or intelligent we tend to explore every possible thing we can think of (and we can think of a lot, because we ARE smart) in our heads, and end up exhausting ourselves and getting worried. I found studying Biology/Psychology at college played havoc with my OCD because I knew a lot about things that could go wrong with the body. Every little twinge I had, I would think it was cancer. Everytime I thought I heard something or saw something weird I thought I was schizophrenic and having psychotic halluncinations. We think of something, and our intelligence and what we know blows it out of all proportion. This is why we question ourselves so much with OCD.

This is where the problem comes in with obsessive compulsives... they tend to be highly intelligent and sensitive to the world by nature, and therefore worry about everything that crosses their minds. If you were a general dumbarse, you wouldnt worry about half these things, if you know what I mean. And if you were dumb, you probably wouldnt have OCD at all.

yeah my therapist told me today that alot of intelligent people get ocd, because we overthink everything, it makes perfect sense! Gosh, who woulda thunk that our genius would turn around and bite up in the bud? haha i know ive been gettin worried about the silliest things.. like if my mom is gone too long from the house i start thinking crazy thoughts about what if she got in an accident.. not all the time reluctantly and soon shes going on a few day vacation.. im preparing now:P ill try not to call her all the time

yea this happend to me too.. I considered even the smallest thing possible as a cancer & all that. I kept on thinking about it at like 4:00pm , strongly scared. And all of it looked 100% right , and from everything i thought and everything i found out , it was comfirmed ( by me ) that i had a problem but somewhere i knew that this is wrong, and if i'll leave it , nothing would happen. Thou its gone , and now i care a damn about those medical stuff. Moved to religious stuff thou! ..

And about that 'intelligence can be right' part , i'll rather stop thinking about anything that comes in my mind , maybe good for me!
