Meds for OCD

What are some of the meds some of you are taking for OCD? What has worked best for you? Just wanted to take a survey since I see my doctor today. Thanks

Re: Meds for OCD

The standard is Luvox and a Benzo of some sort. However, many combos of different drugs may have to be tried before you find something that works. Personally I just take the Benzo because I have bad reactions to all the antidepressants and I am not depressed. This can be an arduous journey, so prepare to have some extra anxiety and keep a log book of how you felt every day and when you felt that way so you and your doctor can see your progress.

Good luck,
OE

Re: Meds for OCD

There are a list of various anxiety disorder medications, but the effect of most of these put me into suicidal depression. Each person is different when it comes to meds. What may work for me might not work for you.

Your first med usually works the best for the longest also, but that may be my OCD talking?

Re: Meds for OCD

Iloveturtles,

There are lots of meds out there and plenty of options your psychiatrist has at his disposal.

Most docs use antidepressants to treat OCD. I'm bipolar, so my dosage is carefully monitored because an antidepressant can trigger mania. I take Zoloft. It has worked best for me for many years.

But like someone else said on this thread, each person responds differently to different meds. Your doctor will consider your side effects, as well as how well the med seems to be working. Be open. Always let the doc know just how you're feeling. That way, you get the best med possible for you.

Best wishes,

Nikki
