Unhappy I think I have OCD, please tell me if I do

I think I may have OCD. I do like things neat and orderly, but not overly so. I can sleep fine if my house is a wreck. Although I won't go too long like that. Here is my latest obsession. Do you think it's OCD? Okay, I have a 3 year old daughter. She goes to a preschool that is considered "the best" around our area. It's just a little church preschool but I love their program and my oldest daughter just loved it there, too. It is so important to me that my 3 year old attend there. I went and registered her. The director of the preschool has a little notebook where she just writes your child's name on the list. Nothing fancy. Well I want my daughter there so badly that I have convinced myself that the director did not write her name down. And now I will worry all summer that she is not really enrolled. The preschool is closed now and I am stuck worrying over this. How can I make it through the summer? Is this OCD?

Re: I think I have OCD, please tell me if I do

Well, it sounds OCD-ish.
Try this.
Contact the Director, or, even better yet, the director's administrative assistant, and ask to have them please check that your daughter's name is spelled correctly on the list -- perhaps there is even a common misspelling of her given name or your family name that you can use as a legitmate excuse.

Then, once you've verified that her name is on the list, see what happens.
If you are still unable to believe that her name is really on the list, that would seem to confirm that you have OCD (but only a mental health professional could really confirm that).
Of course, after you have verified that her name is on the list, you might switch gears and become afraid that something else will prevent her from going.
That would be my typical line of thinking.
If so, I guess my psychiatrist would say something like, well, you've done everything you can do to see that she's enrolled, now try not to waste time obsessing about it.
Of course, maybe a psychiatrist or psychologist would say something else, I'm just basing that on my experience.

Re: I think I have OCD, please tell me if I do

Thank you for the reply, and it's a good idea. However my daughter's name is so very easy to spell. I'm afraid I would sound like a fool. The director does not have an admin assistant. It's driving me crazy and affecting the quality of my life. That is what is making me think OCD. I do this over anything that is important to me. I will sit and try to replay the process that occurred in my mind. In this instance, I will try to remember what happened when I was registering my daughter. But then the part where she writes her name down gets fuzzy and I convince myself she didn't. And at this point I firmly believe her name is not there. So I try to think of what would make me stop obsessing. So I say to myself, "well, I paid her a registration fee and they cashed the check, so they will have to squeeze my child in even if her name is not on the list." For a minute I will feel relief, but then my mind tells me that they will just refund my money and tell me they are full (and they always fill up, never any openings.) It's making me crazy and ruining the precious time I have with my young kids. To me this sounds like OCD but I don't have some of the other symptoms I have heard others describe.
