I was wondering what helps for most people that have OCD.. Does certain medicine work better for pure O OCD. I am taking Lexpro about 30mg a day.. It seems to help some days better than others and my anxiety has gone done quite a bit.. I still have the intrusive thoughts and sometimes my anxiety goes up when I am having a lot of bad intrusive thoughts.. I am in therapy now to help with my OCD.. I think allot of it is the mental rituals that I do that make it worse.. Just wondering if there is anything better for someone that has pure O..Thanks!!!!

Can anyone share some light on this? PLEASE I HAVE A APPT. with my doctor and would like to know what seems to be working for everyone.. DOES ANYONE TAKE LEXPRO? I have heard allot about Paxil being a good one...Thanks for any HELP!!!

I take lexapro 20mg. Also risperdal 0.5mg twice a day for anxiety mostly. It causes weight gain, but I've managed to stablize and it's worth it for the anxiety relief.

I have pure O also. I'm taking celexa 80mg and .5-1 mg of klonopin daily. I think both are helping with my ocd and anxiety. My dr. wants to give me anafranil also bec. it's very helpful for ocd but I'm scared of the side effects like weight gain and constipation! So she said that ok we'll wait and see how I'm progressing. I didn't gain weight with celexa and klonopin but when I took risperdal before, I gained weight! I hope this helps. You might want to talk to your doctor about anafranil bec. it's the first drug approved for treating ocd. Hope to hear how you're doing! Good luck!

I have never heard of one medicine being specifically recommended for pure O. All the SSRIs , plus Anafranil, are used for OCD - often it is a trial and error thing.
But I think it's good you're asking the question, because who knows, maybe we'll find that a lot of people with pure O did have luck with one particular med?

Personally I take Prozac and it has done wonders for my OCD.
