Hello,

My psychiatrist just prescribed anafranil for me to take. I'm just wondering if it causes weight gain? I would really appreciate it if anyone can answer my question, anyone who has taken anafranil for ocd. Thank you very much and looking forward to hearing from all of you!

Hi,

Best thing to do is to ask your pharmacist, who will know more about side effects than almost anyone else.

Keep in mind that a med that causes weight gain in some, will cause loss or nothing in someone else.

Sorry, I never took it myself, so can't tell you from experience.

I have never taken Anafranil either. I can relate to your concerns though. When medication was first suggested to me, I was worried it might cause weight gain.

It is true though, different meds affect different people differently.

Do a web search on it, if you want to - but then you'll probably find those people who HAVE experienced this side effect (they are more likely to post about it).

Hi vicky88, I have taken anafranil in the past and I didn't gain any weight. I was on it for about a year. Sorry I can't help you any more than that.
