It all will depend on your individual brain chemistry. For some, the SSRIs work wonders; for others, it takes an SSRI plus an atypical anti-psychotic. CBT alone can also work, although it isn't usually as effective with pure obsessional OCD. You also may find that one SSRI will work when another won't, despite being the same type of medications. I searched for years to find the right medication for my pure obsessional OCD, and I finally found success last July with the tricyclic anti-depressant Anafranil (clomipramine), the first drug that was ever FDA-approved for OCD. However, many people don't like Anafranil, since it has more side effects than the SSRIs, due to it being an older medication. Unfortunately, the world of psychiatric medications is one of trial-and-error. Talk with your doctor about which medication choice would be best for you, and hopefully, you will find one that works.
