Last Looks - Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) Message Board

I know this is an obsession as I have ocd and gad. I will not look a person in the eye when we part for fear it will be the last time I see them alive. I really want to stop this and I know it got started 15 yrs ago when I went on vacation I stopped at my bosses office to retrieve some papers, we just looked at each other and didn't say anything as in passing. When I got back 2 weeks later he had died of a brain aneurysm while I was gone, I remember the look. When my mollydog died I took her to the vet as I left she turned her head and we made eye contact, she died 2hrs later of heart failure, the same thing with my other dog and my parrot of 20yrs. so I decided that if I don't look anyone human or animal in the eye when saying goodby they won't die. I realise I don't cause their death but at least I don't have the last look fixed in my brain. Just wondered if anyone else has such a sick obsessive thought.

Hey, no I don't suffer from exactly what you have but let me tell you, you don't have to be ashamed. OCD is a horrible thing to deal with and with what you've been through would make someone like that I bet! Have you seen a doctor or anyone about it or have you been silently suffering?

Thanks Dramaqueen. I don't usually tell anyone why I don't look them in the eye when saying goodbye, can you hear this? "I'm not going to look into your eyes cuz I don't want you to die" Can't imagine saying it to my kids or hubby or anyone. My Dr knows as this is part of my ocd, germ freak, clean freak, obsessive thoughts, you know how it goes! Feel like a freak show at times once my ocd thoughts goes into action, sure hate this brain activity.
